Shelley Varner-Perez, MDiv, BCC (Cohort 2)

Shelley is a Clinical Staff Chaplain at VA Portland Health Care System in Portland, Oregon, where she works with Veterans and their families in critical care, liver and renal transplant, and outpatient women Veterans health.

She also is a champion for spiritual care interventions related to moral injury, military sexual trauma, and staff moral distress. Shelley is a graduate of Campbell University and Princeton Theological Seminary. She is board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Shelley is an ordained minister in the American Baptist Churches, USA, and previously served congregations in New Jersey and Oregon. She is pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology at Oregon Health & Science University and Portland State University. She intends to join her spiritual care experiences caring for Veterans with current research initiatives within VA. From 2014-2018, Shelley is serving as the Education Chair for the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) Oregon-North Chapter.
